Over the past four years, Lotus Flower Trust has – through the generosity of individuals, companies and Trusts – completed 7 projects which have offered 360 children the opportunity for a new start in life.

Ramnagar School and Home for Disabled Children

 

Children with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsey through to Down’s syndrome living in villages near Ramnagar, some five hours north-east of Delhi, now have a new special school and home. That is thanks to Women in Travel (WiT) and the many individuals and companies in the duty free and travel retail industry who raised funds to build the residential school in less than 13 months. Ashram Shala Savada Residential School for Bakshi Panch Children, Gujarat.

 

It is almost 12 years since John Hunt saw the dreadful conditions the Bakshi Panch children were living under, 24 girls sleeping in a mouse infested hovel!! Saraswati Shishu Mandir Primary School

 

It was one of the worst things imaginable - a landslide had struck, destroying the walls of the primary school, trapping the class and, devastatingly, leaving 18 young children dead. The suffering of the families was immense. The site would never be used again for teaching as, the locals believe, the spirits of the dead children remain. Upper Tharuk Primary School

 

This very small school is in one of the most remote areas in Ladakh. The school was upgraded in 2011 by Rod Pashley and a few of his friends. They funded a rebuild and installed a boundary wall. Everything was then repainted.

Tarsaal Primary School

 

After two visits by the students of Winchester College a new school has been completed. The area was not served by a school previously and the new building is being enthusiastically utilised by around 100 local children. The Headmaster of Winchester College was so impressed with the effect this programme had on the students that it has now become part of the sixth form curriculum and a new project is in hand for coming years. …

Lalitpur Primary and Middle School

 

The rebuilding of this run down school was completed with funds raised by the duty free industry at the DFNI Charity Ball. Toilets were built where there were none; a kitchen was added as were washing facilities. A boundary wall was constructed to protect the school’s land and the whole place was painted.
