New Nunnery, Basgo
After the huge success of the Saboo Ayu Nunnery the local nuns have asked us to fund a new home and Monastery for fifty Nuns aged from 5 – 26 years old.
Buddhist nuns are often trapped in a life of servitude in family homes. Girls who find themselves in this situation opt for a new home and the companionship of other women who have become nuns. The youngest girls come from Zanskar, a very remote and mountainous region of the Himalayas.
Winchester College students are undertaking the amazing effort to raise approximately £65,000 for the two year planned construction.
35 young men from the UK working alongside the tough nuns – who have never known anything but hard work and prayer – is going to be quite an extraordinary sight when completed in August 2013.
