The Mar Thomas Munsiari School is one of the remotest schools in Uttrakhand. At around 35 miles from the Tibetan/Chinese border in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains, it is situated treacherously close to the edge of a high slope and is in dire need of relocation, reconstruction and repair.
Border Roads recently threatened to pull the school down in order to make way for a new road being built to the Chinese border, but thankfully this has been stopped so the children can continue to be educated until their school is upgraded.
Thanks to the generosity of TFWA Care, plans have been finalised to re-construct some of the buildings that are in the very worst state of repair. With the £35,000 TFWA has donated, LFT is able to fund and re-build a much-needed Anganwadi/Kindergarten for more than 60 children as well as a Study Centre large enough to accommodate all 260 students.
Building work is about to commence! We'll update you with progress...
