There are 3,000 neglected adults and children with Special Needs living in the Himalayan country of Ladakh. But there are very few facilities for those with Special Needs here, with one exception being the PAGIR (People's Action Group for Inclusion and Rights) Special Needs Skills Centre. Here, the Centre’s users are taught how to craft and products made create a small income. As the only facility of its kind in Ladakh, the Trust hopes the new PAGIR Centre will act as a catalyst to improve the situation for these neglected adults and children who have been denied any kind of education.
Recently, 4 users of the Centre at PAGIR and 3 children at our JSR School were given bespoke wheelchairs from Walkabout Wheelchairs to help transform their lives - visit our News page to see them getting to grips with their amazing new chairs. There were 27 more children and adults, ranging from 2 - 50 years, using the PAGIR Centre who also struggled for too long without the appropriate physical support. With generous support from Motivation India, who kindly agreed to subsidise and provide all 27 wheelchairs and walking aids, plus 3 collapsible chairs for transportation, LFT successfully raised the remaining funds required to provide the help PAGIR’s users desperately needed.
