The Trust was asked by the Board and Teachers of the Himalayan Public School in Manila to fund an extension of 5 new classrooms, a teacher’s office plus toilet and washing facilities. Previously the school consisted of two very run down buildings that housed four classrooms in one, and two in another. The washing facilities were not fit to be used and all the rooms were in a very poor state of repair. Thanks to our generous funder, these buildings have been upgraded to a much higher standard. The increase in size has enabled numbers to rise to 150 and allow children from surrounding villages, where there are currently no schools, to attend. The school is not funded by the Education Department so the teachers do not receive a salary. Instead they are paid a small contribution from the school fees (equivalent to £3 a month, although the poorest children do not pay any fees).
